The more I study Network Marketing the more I understand the power and importance of personal development as the key to weatlh.
You will only ever reflect externally what you believe to be true internally, whether you know what our inner beliefs are or not. So, a great place to start to understand what you internal beliefs are is to stop for a moment and take a look around you and AT you.
What does your body look like? Is it healthy and vibrant? Do your eyes sparkle and your skin glow? Are you dressed how you would like to be or in what you just have? Are you dressed at all today? Did you get out of your track pants and comfy t-shirt? What did you eat today? Was it what you truly desired or was it what you could afford or most convienent or what you always have? Will the food you eat prolong your life or shorten it?
How about the car you have or don’t have, the house you live in or not? Not to mention the bottom line on your bank account. Is that where you want to be or where you thought or hoped you would be when you dreamed about your future 10 years ago?
What about your family, friends, colleagues. Remember, your network is your net worth. If you still have the same familiar faces around you 24/7 then you know some things about yourself.
Our surroundings are the Scoreboard of our achievements and the ‘billboard’ for others to see just like any scoreboard. To show better results you have to get better.
The great news is that all these are skills and skills you can learn. You do this by playing at a higher level and this is true for any area in life. When you want to increase your knowledge or skill in an area you find someone who has already mastered that skill and learn from them, you study at a higher level.
As Albert Einstein said “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” You need to expand your thinking and there are many ways to do this – classical learning, reading, the Internet, blogs, listening to self improvement media, mentors, coaches, peer groups, the ‘wiser older ones’ aka grandparents, who know so much about life that is applicable in all situations, inner reflection – the list is endless.
This reminds me of a story I learned from about a man who wanted to learn a particular piece of classical music to play on the piano. I cannot recall the details or names etc but you will get the idea.
The teacher gave the new student his first piece of music to learn, he practised and he became very competent at this piece. The next piece he was given was incredibly complex, far above anything he wanted or even needed to know. He complained to the teacher that it was ridiculous giving him such a difficult piece to learn. The teacher insisted he learn this piece or leave. The student took the music and practised again and again until he had learned it, felt please with this and was ready for his next piece. The teacher then gave him the piece of music he originally wanted to learn, now this piece was actually easier than the piece he had just learned and so when he played it he learned it quickly and with much joy at how it sounded but more importantly such pride about how much he had learned.
It was the teachers wisdom that pushed his student far beyond his capabilities so that he could know the sweet taste of accomplishment. This is how self development is too, stretch yourself beyond your known limit and reveal in the joy and rewards of success.
Above all else, progress in Network Marketing is about being responsible, accountable and ethical in all you do. These underpin your self esteem which is where we will go next…
